I Love My Wife - 22 Years Today

Today is my 22nd wedding anniversary. And, for the first time in that time, my wife and I are in different places on this special day.

Nothing like absence to make you realize how much you miss your loved one's presence--and take it for granted. Because we support each other's independence as well as really like each other a lot, we will survive this time apart fine. We do our own thing much of the time at home. But it doesn't make the house feel any less empty without her in it.

Meeting my wife-to-be brought an end to two years of dating after divorcing my first wife. I was just about fed up with the whole process--until I met her. See my blog post of February 8th for the details, but I can tell you, it was one of, if not THE, most important day of my life. When I saw her and felt her warm, powerful energy, I knew I'd found the right one.

That's how you stay married for decades. It's not like a romance novel--it's better. And you don't melt into one mutual blob--you become more who you really are with the support of the other person. I may not have known that then but I do now.

Can't wait 'til Sunday night, when she's back with me.

The Joy of My Heart--The First Hour

It was a cold November evening when I pulled up and parked near the downtown Oakland highrise. I was there to pick up a woman who had invited me out for an evening with friends. I had no big expectations.

I was two years out of my marriage, and had been dating. I had hired a very nice woman to help out at my company and as she was married, I asked if she had any sisters, as kind of a joke. Well, she had a cousin, and that was who I was going to pick up that night.

I got to the door and it was opened by a beautiful woman with large green eyes that I had never met before. I put out my hand to introduce myself and her warm hand felt so good on my cold one that I just stood there holding onto it for a long time.

The mysterious beauty was a co-worker of my "date." We went inside to wait for her. Oddly, I sat down right next to the beautiful woman--squeezed tight next to her on the large sofa. I didn't know what I was doing, but I was already falling, subconsciously, for the love of my life.

24 years later, I am still glad every day that I did.

Accidental Hearts Collection, Part 1

I collect images of accidental hearts.

When I see one, I photograph it and immediately send it to my wife. I think she appreciates the attention, although some of them are very odd looking.

I'll post these hearts here now too, along with other interesting images I capture as I test drive life.
